It was with broken hearts that we had to say goodbye to Nissa, much too soon. We took Nissa to the vet as she was obvioulsy not feeling well, she was already quite ill. She was immediately put on a drip and started on antibiotics. The vet took bloods and sent them off to the lab. I fetched her a day later and took her to have an ultra-sound where she was diagnosed with Pancreatitis (swelling of the pancreas, an organ that produces digestive enzymes and hormones such as insulin. When the pancreas is swollen, the enzymes it produces can enter the surrounding abdominal organs. Ultimately, this can cause damage to the liver, intestines and other internal organs that are near the pancreas.) pancreatitis does not appear to be genetic or caused by any specific triggers, so we don't know why she got it. Once she was diagnosed she was given pain medication and the vet started tube feeding her as she had not eaten for 4 days already. Due to the Pancreatitis Nissa developed a secondary Hepatic lipidosis, or fatty liver. Although it was a very hard desicion to make there was nothing more we good do for Nissa and we could not put her through any more suffering. Even though our cats are inside cats the lab suggetsed we test for FIV and FeLV just in case, we were relieved that the results were negative. Our sincere thanks go to Dr Shelly Barnsley and the rest of the staff at Strand Animal Hospital for their outstanding care of Nissa while she was there.

"Nissa" is a very sweet girl who HATES strangers in strange places!! She is completely over the top in her demonstrations of affection to everyone who visits us at home (all you have to do is speak to her and you will have her rolling around turning somersaults), but heaven help anyone (including the vet) who tries to touch her when she is out of her comfort zone.

Nissa has good bone and is a good sized female (who loves her food!). She does not have a great profile, but has fantastic ear furnishings!! She has been shown, but she hated it and the first time was the last time.
